My Profit in Eternity

My Profit in Eternity

I hope you have enjoyed these thoughts from W. Herschel Ford’s sermon “Since Jesus Came Into My Heart”. The last thing that he points out, which we receive as followers of Jesus, is an eternal profit. Titus 3:8 says “These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.”

The Eternal Promise of Joy through Faith in Christ

Ford says “does it pay a man to leave the devil’s service and line up on God’s side and serve Him? It certainly does. It pays for time and eternity. Every man who has tried it has found that it does pay. It pays right here in this world. If there were no afterlife, no heaven and no hell, it would still pay a thousand ways to be a Christian here. But there is more to it. It pays through a long eternity. Surely it is ‘all this and heaven too’.”

Of course, one of the ultimate gifts that we receive by inviting Jesus into our hearts is the promise of eternal joy with Him. With Him in our hearts we are no longer afraid of death. Life here on earth takes on a new quality with Him in our hearts, and we have the great peace knowing that death is not the end, and we profit beyond this life, through Him!

Ford closes his sermon with a story. A good Christian woman lost her son in the war. As her pastor visited her she cried and cried in grief, but then she straightened up and said this: “The last time my boy had furlough he planned a surprise for me. I did not know he was coming home until the door was flung open and I heard him say “Hello, Mom.” In a moment we were in each other’s arms. He has gone on to heaven now and before long I will be going too. I know that when I step inside the gates I will hear a familiar voice. My boy will cry out “Hello, Mom,” and he will be in my arms again.”

Yes, it does pay eternally, to trust Christ! It pays here on earth, and it pays in heaven.

Salvation through Faith: Trusting in Christ for Eternal Profit

Where is your trust today? Are you still expecting to get right with God by doing enough good deeds, being a good enough person? Nobody can ever make up for their sin by doing good. But the Bible is clear that it is by placing our faith in the Saviour, and inviting Him to be Lord of our lives, that we are made right with God. It is then, only then, when we have called Him our Saviour, that this eternal profit awaits.

What are you waiting for? Call on Him now, ask Him to forgive you and make you new, and invite Him into your heart. When you do this in faith you will find your past put behind you, a great portion of love given to you, a new position as an heir of God, a new responsibility to participate in His ways, and an eternal profit that can’t be taken from you.
