Jesus healing

Let’s look at another important picture of Jesus, and this is a picture of Jesus healing. Can you see him today, kneeling beside somebody who is unwell, touching them and making them whole?

Jesus had extraordinary healing powers. We see this in Luke 4:40: “At sunset the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness and laying his hands on each one he healed them. Moreover demons came out of many people, shouting, ‘You are the Son of God’, but he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak because they knew he was the Messiah.”

Jesus was a healer. Jesus spent a good deal of his time reaching out to people, touching them and healing them.

Eternal Healing Hope

But notice that he doesn't only heal physical sickness. There are those whom he healed emotionally and spiritually, setting them free from demons and no doubt from emotional struggles.

Note in verse 40 how he lays his hands on each one of these people. Think of it, Jesus could have just pronounced a healing over everybody, once off, but he took the time to meet with each one, put his hands on them. I'm sure he looked them in the eye and connected with them in a special way.

Jesus really is a healer. However, each one of these people died. Not at this point of course - he brought them healing, but each one of them died. Nobody gets away from death. Jesus' physical healing is only temporary because even if we are in perfect health, our time on earth will still come to an end.

This is why Christ's emotional healing and spiritual healing is of more value than physical healing because even though this body will die, our spirits will live on and only those who have been touched by Christ and who have placed their faith in him will go on to enjoy eternity with him.

Healing Through Faith

Come to Jesus today and let him heal you. If he heals your body, that's wonderful. If he doesn't heal the body, don't resent him that. But remember the more important healing that he had to do, which was to heal people's hearts, to wash away their guilt and stains and fill their hearts with his love and grace.

That is healing.

And so this picture of Jesus as a healer is an important one. That's what he was all about. I pray that you will sit with him today. Let him touch your face and heal you and set your spirit free forever.
